Joseph Beasley's Vision and Impact

Joseph Henry Beasly, a civil rights activist who also joined a foundation founded by Rev Jesse Jackson, died on December 27, 2025, in Georgia. He was 88 years old. 

Beasly was known for serving as the longtime president of the Georgia state conference of the NAACP, where he fought against racial discrimination. He also worked to increase voter registration among African Americans and advocated for economic and political opportunities for black communities. He spent 50 years working beside Martin Luther King Jr.,helping with his work with the christian leadership conference. Beasly was a significant civil rights leader who strengthened voting rights, fought racial discrimination, and advanced social and economic  justice for African Americans in Georgia over decades of dedicated leadership. 

Beasly was born on March 23rd 1932 in Waco,Texas by his mom and his dad, Harold E.Beasly and Cora M.Crawford Beasly. He attended public schools in Cincinnati, Ohio, later earned a B.S. degree in criminal justice from Park College in Kansas City and attended Graduate School at Clark Atlanta University.

Beasly was known for being courageous, principled and dedicated. He enjoyed community engagement, mentoring, reading and staying informed. Friends and family described him as  strong-willed, determined, compassionate and caring. Beasly is survived by his children Rick Beasly and Rodney Beasly.
