Flu Season is Here—Are You Vaccinated?

In a surprising twist just days into February 2026, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration announced it will now review Moderna's investigational mRNA flu vaccine after initially rejecting the company’s application over clinical trial design concerns—a rare regulatory rebuke that sparked industry pushback and lifted Moderna’s stock.

The decision could pave the way for the first mRNA-based seasonal influenza shot to reach adults aged 50 and older in time for the 2026–2027 flu season, underscoring both heightened scrutiny of vaccine approvals under current health leadership and ongoing efforts to improve protection against a virus that continues to cause significant illness each year.

The role that the flu vaccine plays is that it protects kids and adults from being diagnosed with the flu. Even though it doesn't prevent the flu, it makes the symptoms less effective. It is very important that certain groups of the population get this vaccine, such as the elderly, pregnant women, and those with chronic health conditions. By decreasing the number of people who get the flu, the vaccine can reduce medical costs and schools can stay virus free.

Doctors and health officials advise you to practice good hygiene. You should stay at home if you are sick and go to a health expert if you are feeling worse. Now is a great time to get vaccinated   for not only yourself but also for family and community.
