Friendship Knights Defend Home Turf in 18-14 Win Over Simon Gratz

The Friendship Collegiate Academy football team earned a hard-fought 18–14 victory over Simon Gratz last Friday at Donald H. Field.

Friendship started the game strong, taking an early lead when senior quarterback Darrin Richardson (#12) scored a touchdown with just 30.7 seconds left in the first quarter. The defense also came out ready, with players making key tackles to slow down Simon Gratz's offense.

After taking the early lead, Friendship faced pressure as Simon Gratz fought back and eventually took control of the game. The matchup stayed competitive as both teams battled for every possession.

Friendship's defense continued to make important plays throughout the game. Quinelle Shaw (#18) and Darnell Rolland (#9) recorded tackles, while Deyon Smith (#10) made a tackle for loss. The defense's effort helped keep Friendship within striking distance as the game went on.

Heading into the fourth quarter, Friendship needed to make a comeback. Junior Khamari Reed (#3) helped spark that comeback by scoring a touchdown with five minutes remaining in the game.

With the game still up for grabs, Friendship continued pushing. Senior Deyon Smith (#0) came through with another touchdown with just two and a half minutes left on the clock, putting Friendship in position to take the lead.

The final minutes came down to the defense. Friendship managed to hold off Simon Gratz and protect its lead, finishing the night with an 18–14 victory.

The win was a strong example of Friendship's ability to stay composed and fight back when things are not going their way. Richardson's early touchdown, Reed's fourth-quarter score, Smith's late touchdown, and the defense's key stops all played a role in this victory.
