When you were a child, did you ever feel like nobody listened to you? Did you feel that your voice was muted? Well, a nationwide competition called Mikva Soapbox Challenge is finally stressing the importance of letting kids speak up. And luckily for the competition, it had a surplus of participants in the DMV area!

Now that it’s the beginning of the year it’s time to sign up for after school clubs. Many girls are interested in joining the Girl Scouts club, but not everybody will be able to join. 

On December 4, 2019, 19th Street’s FPCS Blow Pierce’s girls and boys basketball teams welcomed 19th Street’s Monument Public Charter School boys and girls basketball teams into our school’s gym for a basketball tournament like no other. With both school’s being located on 19th Street, “The Showdown” was created to heighten the hype around winning this game for both schools.

On Saturday, January 11th, FCA's varsity Lady Knights had little trouble defeating Basis with their persistence and teamwork. They crushed their opponents, 66-1.

I have been cheering with the Rosedale Tigers competitive cheerleading team for two years. I started cheering because I wanted something fun and nice to do during my spare time. Ever since I started cheering, I have heard conversations about whether or not cheerleading is a sport.

12/18/2019  As the year came to an end and winter break gets near, the FPCS Blow Pierce Campus hosted a spirit week to spread the holiday cheer! One of the spirit weekdays was titled “Winter White Wednesday”. On this day, students, teachers, and staff wore all-white or mostly white and participated in a snowball fight.

On Saturday, January 4, 2020, FCA Knights took on Lanham Christian in Collegiate's gym garnering a narrow loss of 54-59.

On December 17th, 2019, Friendship Collegiate Academy hosted its Annual Alumni Day when past graduates return to inspire by sharing their experiences and giving advice to future FCA graduates.

After game two of the regular season, the FPCS Blow Pierce boys basketball team is 0-2, but that will change! The players on our roster are good, and with practice, can and will improve. The first teams we faced were KIPP DC and the Woodridge Eagles.

In the intense seventh game of the 2019 World Series, the Washington Nationals “finished the fight” against the Houston Astros The two teams went into this game with 3-3 records so, the winner of this final game determined who the World Series Champions would be

It was a matchup that the city couldn’t wait to see. Friendship Collegiate had been down this road before, but Dunbar worked really hard this season to get to new heights. With Friendship having an overall 9-3 season and Dunbar with 10-2, it was easy to wonder who the champion would be.

On Wednesday, November 25, Friendship Woodridge International had its first Safety Patrol Induction thanks to Officer Lake. At the induction, students learned the role of an officer. We learned the history of Safety Patrol. Finally, new members said a pledge. Then they were officially inducted to Safety Patrol, with the duty of protecting classmates.

You may not know what an E-Girl is, so I am going to tell you. An E-Girl is a girl that usually wears dark-colored clothing and makeup. The “E” in E-Girl stands for “emo” or “emotional”.

On October 2, 2019, our agriculture teacher Mr. Coy, took some of the Academy of Urban Ecology students on an amazing field trip to “Cultivate the City”. During this field trip, we participated in a rooftop garden tour and learned about many different things that we didn't know before, such as the worth of different peppers, trees that provide medications and herbs, and how hydroponic plants are grown.

Although some are concerned with the influence of rap because of the profanity, slang, and violence it uses and speaks of, rap music is relatable music that many enjoy because it is catchy and heartfelt. 

On December 1, 2019, Rosa Parks was honored as Montgomery County, Alabama unveiled a statue of her. This is very important to many African American men and women.
