The 1990s through the late 2000s was considered the “golden age” for romance movies. Romance movies evoke positive emotions and provide an emotional escape which causes people to be drawn towards them rather than any other movie genre. Romance movies also include all the different aspects of other movie genres that people tend to enjoy the most such as drama and action. A lot of people enjoy relatable content and romantic films tend to tap into the universal experience of love, crushes, and relationship problems. These movies also provide a feeling of hope and vulnerability.

Romantic films produced in the 1990s through the 2000s tend to tap into the real experiences of love including the happy endings, the breakups, and the uncertainties giving the audience a chance to put themselves in the shoes of the characters so they can feel all the emotions that the characters feel. They’re able to relate to the characters through empathy which gives them an emotional connection. I believe that the hope that romantic movies give to the audience keeps them tuned in.

I truly believe that romance movies are the best movies of all time. Specifically rom-coms that were made in the early 2000’s. They give me a sense of comfort and familiarity which is something that I look for in a lot of the films that I watch. They can sometimes have me on the edge of my seat wondering if the boy will actually get the girl but it’s the happy ending that always brings me back for more. One day I hope I can be in the position of getting the love story that I always watched on the TV screen.
