Dependence on Technology in Schools Can Cause Social Isolation in Teens

Schools have increased their reliance on electronics by almost three times since it began to grow popular in schools around the early 2000s until now. The use of technology inside school can replace the need for social interactions among teens. This can lead to self-isolation, and less socializing among peers in school.

I believe schools shouldn't lean on technology as much for teaching students. According to Oxjournal, scholars who are taught in low tech environments are more likely to retain and develop what they’ve learned. In addition, they may or may not be affected by negative mental/ emotional feelings caused by electronics. On the contrary, it has been determined that around 66% of students whose schools have a high use of tech may have trouble with their attention span. Although technology may be helpful with easy access that makes assignments easier, it messes with teens' ability to effectively curate their thoughts and focus on one thing at a time.

To avoid this, schools can adjust the amount of time students spend on laptops and iPads. In addition to that, schools can also start relying more on the use of paperwork rather than devices. I believe that If the use of technology in schools doesn't change soon, it is likely it will increase the problem. For more information, you can go to Oxjournal.org.
