Avyona Turner, a senior at Friendship Collegiate Academy, was a finalist for the 2025 DC CTE Presidential Scholars Award. The Presidential Scholars Award is given to students who demonstrate ability and accomplishment in career and technical education fields.

When it comes to the DC CTE Presidential Scholars Award, students must be U.S. citizens or legal permanent residents, graduating high school seniors, and nominated by their state's Chief State School Officer or a designated committee within the state. Additionally, they must demonstrate excellence in Career and Technical Education. Each year, up to 161 students can be named a Presidential Scholar. Being awarded a Presidential Scholar Award does not come with money or a trophy, but it includes an all expenses paid trip to Washington D.C., where scholars are recognized with the Presidential Scholars Medallion at a White House ceremony. Scholars also get access to national leaders, visit historical sites, and attend events and ceremonies.

Congratulations Avyona for achieving this incredible feat. We know you’ll keep up the great work, and have a bright future ahead.
