This school year, Tech Prep has selected a phenomenal Teacher of the Year nominee. Ms. Clara Epps was voted by many staff members, parents, and students to be this year’s Teacher of the Year. Ms. Epps definitely deserved it and this was a major accomplishment for her.

Colorism is discrimination against people based on their skin tone. Usually colorism discriminates against people of a darker skin tone. So people would think colorism in the black community would be rare since we all are black and we all face discrimination.

Has anyone heard about the government shutdown? Approximately 33 days ago President Donald Trump decided to shut down the government for border security. I recently heard on the news that roughly 800,000 people have lost their jobs or have been affected by this shut down.

Coding is a very good skill for young people to learn. It is very popular because of all of the games that people play and different programs they use to make these cool games! When kids code, they are using language that the computer understands so they can create different things like games and programs. Let’s meet these kids who code!

I don’t think anyone knows how to spell supercalifragilisticexpialidocious or even a simple word like sagacity. How many people can really spell today? It really doesn’t matter anymore with Spell Check. Spell Check fixes your mistakes so you never have to worry about not knowing the real spelling of the word. In second grade, spelling was something that was super important.

The Friendship Peer Leadership Student Group had the opportunity to discuss issues on the affordability of college with staffers of Congressman Bobby Scott, Congresswomen Carolyn Maloney, Ilhan Omar and Eleanor Holmes Norton.

Remember H&M’s “Coolest Monkey in the Jungle” hoodie everyone thought was offensive because the company put a dark skinned boy in a hoodie that called him a monkey? Now what is even more offensive is that the luxury, high-end designer company Prada had the audacity to release a keychain that sort of looks like a monkey.

As we ended Quarter Two, we celebrated our homecoming and spirit week, a homecoming basketball game as well as the dance.

Harris Teeter is a grocery store across the street from our school. There are a lot of different sections that people can shop in at Harris Teeter, which is a good thing because people shop there for different reasons. One person might go for food but another person might go for flowers. Harris Teeter is like a grocery store and more!

On December 20, 2018, Friendship Technology Preparatory Academy had its third Annual Alumni Day when alumni from Tech Prep who may have graduated or still be in college came back to Tech Prep to speak on their college experiences.

On November 2, 2018 our FNN team went to the Japan Information and Culture Center, Embassy of Japan (JICC) in Washington, DC. It was fun to learn new things about the Japanese culture. We learned that Japan is far away from Washington D.C. and that their culture is very different.
