This week, Woodridge’s very own Ms. Sarah Frayer, 2nd grade teacher, has been named the D.C. Finalist for the Sanford Teacher Award! This is certainly a monumental achievement for Ms. Frayer, our entire school, as well as the Friendship community. Ms. Frayer’s achievement is just one of the many examples of the excellence in teaching that resides within our school.

Monday, November 26th, 2018 was a day where we lost another phenomenal cartoonist. Stephen Hillenburg, the creator of “Spongebob Squarepants”, sadly passed at the age of 57. Hillenburg held many titles throughout his lifetime, including a marine biologist, teacher, writer, producer, director, and animator.

Breast Cancer month is a perfect time to support breast cancer and those women and men who are breast cancer survivors. On Saturday, October 26, 2018, our FTPA cheerleaders known as the Blue Belles stepped out to help our women and men fight to heal breast cancer.

Woodridge had a Tier 1 celebration and everyone from our Community office came out. We had a carnival with several different moon bounce machines, game trucks for playing video games, a dance area with live music, and cupcakes.

On December 1, 2018, FCA Knights Varsity Football team played HD Woodson at Eastern Senior High School for the 2018 DCSAA Championship Trophy.

FCA Parents, fans, athletes, and coaches have been waiting for the DCSAA playoffs which started on November 24, 2018 when Friendship Knights went against Wilson Tigers at Georgetown University. After all of the hard work and struggles to reach this year DCSAA championship, it's time for them to shine their brightest.

This school year I've joined the cheerleading team and the experience is definitely fantastic and interesting. The experience is interesting because the team bonded with the newcomers quickly and I truly liked that. I learned that team bonding is something I needed to work on because I really didn't like working with others until I became a cheerleader.

A good percentage of the world is made up of teenagers. Teenagers go through puberty and may regret a lot of things they do in their teenage life. For one thing, it’s scary for teenagers if they don’t have a plan, as in not having colleges lined up and picked out, not knowing what career to pursue, and not having straight A’s as expected.

TNT! TNT! TNT! Top Notch Titans is the place to be bright and early on Saturday. On November 17, 2018, Tech Prep began the school year’s first TNT Saturday Math Program with a number of scholars ready to learn.

On October 25, 2018, I went with eight other “Young Doctors of DC” on a 15-hour road trip to New Orleans, Louisiana to gain insight on some New Orleans colleges for a symposium on “Changing the Narrative: Black Men in Medicine”.

On October 31, 2018, Friendship Technology Preparatory Academy was recognized as a Tier One school. Last year, the now eleventh graders helped build on the foundation of this accomplishment.

Hurricanes are storms with strong, spiraling winds that form over warm water. The wind speeds determine how strong the hurricane is. Hurricanes can put animals, people, and their homes and belongings in danger. It is surprising that despite water on the east coast being cooler than in the Caribbean, that hurricanes are starting to travel further up the coast than they did before.

I’d like to take a moment to ask you to realize how beautiful we really are as black women. Having melanin is like having your own superpower (as some would put it). It can boost a woman's confidence one million times when the women are complimented about their skin color.

The Incredibles 2 movie is about a family of superheroes that saved the world from a villain named Underminer who wanted the world under his control. Underminer had a team of bad guys like Syndrome, the Omnidroids, Mirage, Bomb Voyage, and Evelyn Deavor who tried to help him take over the world using their powers and evil creations.  

On November 10th, 2018, FCA Knights showed no mercy during their homecoming game at Anacostia High School. From the sacks to the touchdowns, everyone played their hardest to make this one worthwhile. Photos by Marcellis Bland, Nahkia Calhoun, and Ronald Womack.

Last night at 11:20 pm at a nightclub near the popular Pepperdine University, a gunman walked in the club filled with college students and started firing shots. This was supposed to be a regular college night filled with laughter, dancing, and drinking with friends.
