Oprah Winfrey is an African-American woman who is well known worldwide for starring in movies, creating and producing films, and OWN, which is her own TV network. Oprah Winfrey is an admirable person to African-Americans.

On Friday, February 17, 2017, the Woodridge staff and students celebrated HBCU Day! What does HBCU stand for? It stands for Historically Black Colleges and Universities. As a part of Black History Month, the day was filled with guest speakers who shared valuable information about attending a historically black college.

On Saturday, February 4th, 2017, Friendship Tech Prep hosts our school district-wide STEM Fair. This year, there were many great participants and projects from the brilliant minds of all of the Friendship Schools across the district.

On Tuesday, February 7, 2017, a list was put out to rank 100 large metropolitan areas and DC took 4th place. The ranking was based on the quality of life, job prospects, and affordability.

Everyone knows Donald Trump’s campaign slogan was “Make America Great Again”. But when was America ever great? To me and many others, it was never great. But, we do have some people that believe that it could have been great before. America is a “good” country but it was never great.

Ever see those people whose bodies are in complete paralysis? They can’t move, speak, blink or even eat. If you’ve ever had sleep paralysis you might be able to relate. If you actually have it you probably aren’t reading this. But what if you could still communicate to those people simply by reading their thoughts?

February 7th, 2017. Have you ever wanted to be in a school spelling bee? Well, I have always wanted to participate in an actual real spelling bee. My school spelling bee has lots of easy and hard words like personification, precautionary, and aspirations.

On January 31, 2017, Preschool - 2nd grade went to a skating rink named Temple Hills Skate Palace. All kids that had 150 DOJO points could go. DOJO points have to be earned by following directions.

This year the Chamberlain Girls Volleyball team advanced to the playoffs. They defeated two teams in the playoffs and had a great season!

On Tuesday, February 14th, 2017, in honor of Valentine’s Day, the Pre-K Team put on a spectacular Valentine’s Dance entitled “Love to Dance.” The dance was held in the gym for elementary students in grades kindergarten thru 4th grades. Everyone was asked to wear some form of red, pink, purple or white. 

On Saturday, February 4th, 2017, the Dancing Eagles competed in the Cheer Starz Dance Competition. The dance competition was held at Ballou High School. There were approximately 11 girls who danced to a total of 8 songs. The dancers came in first place once again in the overall competition based on moves, style, and uniforms.

This past year, we saluted and said farewell to our inspiring former president, Barack Obama. President Obama was and still is a great leader to the people of America. But how did President Obama become the wonderful leader he is today? Let’s take a look back at Barack Obama’s story about how he became the great person he is today.

On Friday, February 3rd, 2017, Woodridge Scholars celebrated the 100th Day of School! Scholars in grades PK thru 4 dressed up like they were 100 years old.

Should transgender people have their own bathrooms? This is a question that has been debated many times. Should they be allowed in the bathroom of the gender they changed to? Or should transgenders use the bathroom that matches the gender they were born with?

This year I was honored to be selected to the First Team Allmet Defense. Allmet consists of the top players in this area from both offense and defense. Players are deemed first team, second team, or honorable mention based on their performance during the season.

January 11, 2017. Over the years, dance has played an important role in helping people get in shape and be healthy. In 2016-17 there are all types of different dances. Some of the dances consist of JuJu on that beat, Running Man and of course, the famous Whip and Nae Nae.

 Blow Pierce went to the Air and Space Museum with the Junior Cadet program.  We did lots of activities.  First, we went to the top level which is also the tower. In the tower, we had a fantastic view.  We saw a big field, a runway for the airplanes and clear parking lots.
