On February 7, 2020, the Friendship Tech Prep Varsity Blue Belles traveled to Highland Springs, Virginia to compete in the DMV Stomp & Shake. There were teams throughout the DMV area from elementary to high school. The younger competitors did a great job and won a trophy in numerous categories.

When people (who aren’t from DC) think of DC, the first thing that probably comes to mind is most likely the White House, the Capitol, or the Washington Monument. People don’t think of all the gun violence that is happening in the rest of DC. Washington, DC is made up of eight wards.

Coronavirus. What is it? The Coronavirus is a respiratory disease which is usually found in animals but it can be spread to humans. The Coronavirus is split into four main groups: 229E (Alpha coronavirus), NL63 (Alpha Coronavirus), OC43 (Beta Coronavirus), andHKU1 (Beta Coronavirus).

We live in an age when many people litter on earth because they are “lazy”. It is said that around 14 million pounds of trash are thrown into the ocean each year killing our beautiful sea creatures, which adds to the terrible global warming. Over the past year, we’ve seen many dangerous wildfires burning our plants and trees.

From the time you wake up in the morning to the time you go to sleep at night, technology is all around you. But many people don’t know the true risk of using electronics for a long period of time. According to Everyday Health, “Nine hours per day—that's how much time the average American spends in front of a cell phone, tablet, computer or television screen”.

On November 13, 2019, Tech Prep’s Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) went to the Find Your Balance Challenge to find ways to help solve issues in our school and community. One of the many topics running through our minds was emotional health, which we think seems to be a prevalent problem in our community.

On October 2, 2019, our agriculture teacher Mr. Coy, took some of the Academy of Urban Ecology students on an amazing field trip to “Cultivate the City”. During this field trip, we participated in a rooftop garden tour and learned about many different things that we didn't know before, such as the worth of different peppers, trees that provide medications and herbs, and how hydroponic plants are grown.

Walmart, a store that sells guns is beginning to forbid legal gun carriers from entering their stores with guns. Why? Because On August 3rd, 2019, a man walked into a Walmart in El Paso, Texas and began shooting. Twenty-two people were killed during this shooting.

At Friendship Technology Preparatory Academy we are getting ready for the big day when students take the SAT. In order for the students in grades 10 through 12 to be on the verge of acing this test, they need to practice every week.

On Friday, November 3 and Saturday, November 4, 2019, members of Future Business Leaders of America from all across the country met at the Washington Hilton for the 1st National Fall Leadership Conference. There are three cities where members could choose to attend: Washington, DC, Birmingham, Alabama, and Denver, Colorado. So of course, we chose our hometown, Washington, DC. 

Wanting to go to college and having the finances is one of the biggest worries for high school seniors. A lot of the time students aren't allowed to enroll in the colleges of their choice because they didn't receive any scholarship money or maybe didn’t have enough to attend.

Baby food. We all have had it at least once in our lives. Since baby food is for babies and babies are so fragile you would think that what they’re eating would be very healthy. It’s not.

The topic of chicken sandwiches hasn’t really sparked much conversation until Popeyes began promoting their chicken sandwiches. The conversation started on Twitter. Chick-fil-a tweeted “Bun + Chicken + Pickle = Love”.

Choosing a college, by default, is one of the hardest things for our generation. For many students, it’s challenging because the college you choose will be the place you live for the next four or so years.

From June 28th - July 3rd, 2019, Tech Prep Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) experienced their first National Leadership Conference in San Antonio, Texas. The conference gives all Future Business Leaders of America students the opportunity to compete in various competitions, network with other business leaders, and experience San Antonio.

May 10, 2019, was definitely a night to remember. Why, you ask? It was the FNN Third Annual Awards Ceremony and Dinner. The room was filled with nothing but joy, spirit, and a great smell from delicious food.

From April 15 - April 17, FNN reporters from Friendship Tech Prep and Friendship Collegiate went on our third annual spring break trip. We were able to visit two wonderful cities, New York City and New Haven, CT. This trip allowed 10th and 11th grade reporters from both schools to explore two different colleges while of course having fun.

Everyone has their own issues. Things like self-confidence, anxiety, putting yourself out there, and maybe being vulnerable can be a struggle for many. Sometimes the person will know that he/she has these issues, while others don’t. These problems, depending on how severe they are, can affect one’s mental health.

First, let’s start by defining gentrification. Gentrification happens when a run-down part of a city is renovated so that it can be improved. Once that happens, the low-income people who live within the renovated areas are forced to leave because they can’t afford to live there anymore.

The story of Cyntoia Brown is a very popular and interesting one. When Cytonia was just 16 years old, she murdered and robbed a man named Johnny Michael Allen, because she was forced to have sex with him by a pimp who had taken advantage of her because she was homeless.
