At Friendship Technology Preparatory Academy we have three academies that high school students can attend throughout their four years of school. Of course when you are a ninth grader you are in the Freshmen Academy and once you are a tenth grader until your senior year you can either be a part of the Academy of Engineering or the Academy of Urban Ecology.

At Friendship Technology Preparatory Academy we’re getting ready for PARCC. There are different sessions for us to make sure that all of our Titan scholars get a 4 or 5 on PARCC. The different sessions are: PARCC Push on Fridays because we have half days, TNT Saturday Camp and tutoring sessions after school so students can get a clarification on the things that they have problems with.

On February 28, 2019, Tech Prep and many other Friendship schools went to Collegiate Academy to participate in the Black History Bowl. There were three people to each team, and I, R’Nasia Murphy, was lucky enough to be a part of the Tech Prep team!

In the beginning of the 2018-2019 school year, the Friendship Tech Prep High School campus began to move from Chromebooks to Apple products because Apple gives us a chance to be more innovative and creative with the technology. Teachers were able to get an iPad or MacBook.

On February 26, 2019 the Friendship Tech Prep Academy Varsity Boys basketball team won the PCSAA championship basketball game. Not only that, the team was undefeated all season long. The game was against Cesar Chavez. Tech Prep staff members, students, and parents were all there to support our basketball players.

Gender injustice/inequality means that men and women are not treated equally. Women and girls are impacted by gender injustice because some men think women are weak. Women have always been discriminated against at home and in the workplace

Friendship Tech Prep Varsity Blue Belles and Beaus cheerleaders made it into the CIAA (Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association). Our Belles and Beaus are making history at Tech Prep by being the very first cheer team to compete in the Ufit High School championships. These wonderful student athletes got the chance to stay in Charlotte North Carolina and get the HBCU experience.

On Friday, March 1, 2019, in celebration of Read Across America, my fellow FNN peers and I went across the street to Friendship Southeast Academy and volunteered to read to students in grades Pre-K3 through 1st grade to celebrate reading and make it interesting and fun for the kids.  

Many parents tell me that the decision to skip their child is a big one. I can see why— students who skip are forced to be with older kids, be influenced by them, developing the fear they’ll be put behind because of the material they hadn’t been able to learn and many other reasons.

We all know that our current President Donald Trump is a piece of work especially because of the power he has.

MAR. 15, 2019: On February 12, 2019, the Friendship Tech Prep Blue Belles had their first competition of the year which was a great opportunity and experience. Leading up to that day they had many obstacles to face, but that didn’t stop them from winning.

On February 22, 2019, Friendship Tech Prep’s Future Business Leaders of America team attended our very first LifeSmarts competition at UDC Law School. LifeSmarts is a program of the National Consumers League, the nation’s pioneering consumer organization. LifeSmarts is an educational opportunity for students in grades 6-12, that teaches financial and consumer literacy through fun activities.  

Every couple of months throughout the school year, Tech Prep scholars take the MAP Assessment which is a computerized test that gives teachers and school administrators a look at where their students stand academically. The MAP test is usually taken 4 times a year: Fall, Winter, Mid-March, and Spring.

This school year, Tech Prep has selected a phenomenal Teacher of the Year nominee. Ms. Clara Epps was voted by many staff members, parents, and students to be this year’s Teacher of the Year. Ms. Epps definitely deserved it and this was a major accomplishment for her.

Colorism is discrimination against people based on their skin tone. Usually colorism discriminates against people of a darker skin tone. So people would think colorism in the black community would be rare since we all are black and we all face discrimination.

As we ended Quarter Two, we celebrated our homecoming and spirit week, a homecoming basketball game as well as the dance.

On December 20, 2018, Friendship Technology Preparatory Academy had its third Annual Alumni Day when alumni from Tech Prep who may have graduated or still be in college came back to Tech Prep to speak on their college experiences.

Monday, November 26th, 2018 was a day where we lost another phenomenal cartoonist. Stephen Hillenburg, the creator of “Spongebob Squarepants”, sadly passed at the age of 57. Hillenburg held many titles throughout his lifetime, including a marine biologist, teacher, writer, producer, director, and animator.

Breast Cancer month is a perfect time to support breast cancer and those women and men who are breast cancer survivors. On Saturday, October 26, 2018, our FTPA cheerleaders known as the Blue Belles stepped out to help our women and men fight to heal breast cancer.
