Coyote Statues Save the Day

Story by Amir Ford. Photo courtesy of InMenlo.

Students at Laurell Middle School in Menlo Park, California, discovered goose and crow droppings in the children's playground. This not only left a stench while kids played, but left a bad impression on visitors. They needed a plan, and they needed one fast.

The new plan was to build two coyote statues in an effort to chase the crows and geese away from the playground. The school began to build the statues immediately. After the statues were finished, the school decided that they would name the statues Oak and Sequoia.

Thanks to Oak and Sequoia, the geese and crows were scared off by the statues and went to do their business elsewhere. Oak and Sequoia weren’t just statues, they were guardians of the playground. Now kids can play without having to smell the stench of droppings.
